A diagnosis that changed my life - and making the shift to a better place
10 years ago, I was under a tremendous amount of stress, we’ve all been there. I was also not eating right and drinking lots of high-octane coffee. My body reacted with a punch to the gut – literally. After ignoring the symptoms for several months, I finally consulted a doctor and went through testing.
The results were a diagnosis of Colitis (I’ll spare you the details, essentially an ulcer in my colon). The doctor’s response? “It’s chronic, you’ll have it the rest of your life. Here’s your prescription, see ya.”
I wallowed in self-pity for quite some time.
Why me?
I felt victimized by the disease then perse
cuted by the doctor who did not have the an
swer I wanted to hear. I was desperately seek
ing a solution or someone to rescue me from my
fate – that never came.
Making the shift in my mindset happen.
I couldn’t fix the problem, but I could certainly manage my response and create the outcome I wanted. I accepted that I have Colitis but – I did
my own research, got a second opinion and changed my eating habits.
My Colitis won’t go away entirely but, I know the outcome I want. I shifted to seeing the disease as a challenge and found doctors (along with my wife and family) who serve as coaches. I’ve changed my eating habits and got pretty close to remission without any medication, I require medication – but not nearly the amount I might have needed.
